What is non-residential care?

Non-residential care refers to all the adult social care services provided on behalf of the Council, with the exception of services provided by residential care homes. Non-residential care is made up of:

  • Home care is care provided to you in your own home. It helps you with daily activities that you find difficult. This is sometimes called domiciliary care.
  • Day care, which is care and activities that take place outside of the home, usually at a day care centre.
  • Transport to and from day care centres.
  • The meals service, which provides a hot meal in your own home or in a day centre. There is also a 'tea box' service that delivers a drink and snack.
  • Prevention services, which provide timely help and support to help you stay independent in your own home.
  • Telecare, providing devices that permit remote care, offering support and reassurance for you to stay in your own home.
  • Arranging a care package, which is a service to arrange the services that best match your needs.
