Third party payment

A third party top up agreement can be made if you enter a home where the cost is higher than we have agreed to meet. This will be reviewed annually.

Continuing healthcare

You may be entitled to continuing care (or 'long-term care') because of disability, accident or illness. The NHS will pay the full cost of your care.

Nursing care contribution

If the care assessment specifies that nursing care is required and you move into a nursing home and you are not eligible for continuing care funding the NHS may contribute to your fees. Once in place this is usually paid directly to the home.

The Nursing care contribution is now at a standard rate. If you have been assessed as needing the higher band rate before October 2007 you will continue to receive the same amount until further notice or if your needs change.

Registered nursing care contribution (RNCC) rates 2019/20

For eligible care home residents, from April 2019:

the standard rate is £165.56 per week
the higher rate is £227.77 per week

The NHS also provides continence products direct to the nursing home if you have been assessed as needing them.
